Yoga is not just a series of stretching exercises, nor is it just mediation relaxation and breathing. Yoga is a complete way of living. One of the first tenets of Yoga is ahimsa or non harming.
The practice of ahimsa requires that we consider every action and every thought that we make and do our best to prevent injuring others. According to yoga philosophy every bit of matter on this planet is made up of waves of the energy of the Absolute. And we are all connected through the Absolute. If we damage our environment, we ultimately damage ourselves. Surely by the year 2011, we all are beginning to see this outcome.
Ziggy Livnat is a student at the Sivananda Yoga Center in Eilat, where I teach. He also is a professional photographer, conservationist and educator. During the last 12 years Ziggy has traveled the world, devoting his career to the protection of marine environments with the making of several award winning underwater films focusing on ecology, conservation, and education. His photographs can be found in publications such as National Geographic and Advanced Diver Magazine.
I think Ziggy's latest YouTube presentation sends a strong message to the world to consider taking one small simple step to prevent harming our environment. I'm up for it. Are you?
